Last Friday, Jen Tapner and the Community Life staff skipped out on work for our chance to relax with the residents at the first ever Watermark Pool Party at Valley Forge Casino Resort!
We were not sure what to expect, as this is the first time the pool staff ever planned a trip for residents of a senior community, but we were pleasantly surprised with the results during this day trip to the pool. Pool manager Alicia was very helpful with all of the logistics and helped us navigate our way from the casino to the pool. She even allowed us to take a special ramp in order to avoid the steps.
Once at our reserved cabana, some of us decided to relax in the shade while others decided to get some sun on the over-sized chaise lounge chairs. Jen and Spencer enjoyed a bite to eat from the Mexican food truck and fruity mixed drinks were served as we lounged and listened to Margaretville radio. As another patron stated, “We definitely VIPed ourselves during this outing!”
After a bit of relaxation, we made our way to the pool. Myrna jumped right in and swam laps the entire rest of the afternoon. The rest of us took our time adjusting to the cool water, but it felt so good on this 90 degree sunny day. Once in the pool, we had an impromptu cannonball contest. Jessica demonstrated with a couple of flops and Spencer took the cake during his huge splash into the pool. (It helps that he is 6 foot 9 inches tall!) Nada and Saori gracefully climbed down the ladder and took a dip in the deep end and Jen was spotted kicking her feet by the poolside. We all had a blast in this local oasis and Valley Beach truly brought the sand, surf and shore right to our back yard.
This trip was fantastic because those that were not interested in an outdoor pool party could still enjoy the resort life with a fun afternoon at the Casino, taking a spin at the slots and trying their hands at the some of the table games. This casino was clean, well kept and manageable for residents to traverse. After meeting back up at the end of the day, many residents said that they really liked this casino and can’t wait to come back again.
