PICTURE YOURSELF AT THE HEART OF IT ALL
Leave your worries behind and have fun exploring all the excitement, just steps from your front door.
“I don’t need to worry about cutting the lawn. And they’ve got maintenance, they’ve got good maintenance here. If something goes wrong, you call up, they fix it for you. You don’t even worry about cleaning, they clean it for you.” – Sam Basile, resident of The Watermark at Logan Square
MEET SAM BASILE, FULL OF LIFE LIKE THE CITY HE CALLS HOME.
You can learn a lot from someone who has been in your shoes. Their honest insight can help you navigate your way to the place that’s right for you, regardless of which community you choose. (All quotes contained in this post are excerpts from an interview conducted with Sam Basile on Tuesday, July 28th, 2015. To read the full, un-edited transcript, please click here.)
Having worked in Center City for 45 years, Sam is relishing being back where the action is. Living surrounded by museums and great restaurants is
like being a kid in a candy store and he’s savoring every minute. On Sundays I take rides around to see the city because it has changed so much. And I’m really enjoying the Sunday rides because I was surprised. I’ve been out of the city since 1993 so it was a long time to come back in… Apartment buildings, warehouses that turned into apartments and condos and nice skyscrapers. And more restaurants than ever, which I love. And plenty of things to see and do. The city is full of life. – Sam Basile
Small challenges left unchecked over time can make everyday living feel like one big chore. At the same time, a solution so simple and so attainable could be staring you right in the face. All you have to do is open your eyes to the possibilities. When Sam Basile was living alone in his two-story Delaware County home, he never dreamed that he could eliminate his everyday challenges – like walking up and down steps and maintaining his home and yard – with one, smooth move. Nor did he ever imagine a life as fulfilling as the one he’s enjoying now, that is, not until his daughter helped him discover The Watermark. “My kids were worried about me falling down the steps because I used to go upstairs to bed all the time on the second
floor. The one floor and the elevator here is very easy. No steps.” – Sam Basile
FULL OF LIFE
Now in his fourth year at The Watermark, Sam enjoys a maintenance free lifestyle and his spacious apartment as well as sports talks, beer tastings and happy hours with his neighbors. He loves exploring neighborhood restaurants like Butch and Singer, Davio’s, Capital Grill and La Castagne and he’s looking forward to joining a Watermark exercise class and a computer class, too. Even with so many fun and interesting ways to fill his days, Sam still manages to find time to relax and stay current on politics. “When I retired in 1993 I gave up my watch and different things and never worried about time. And I come here and I’ve got to get a watch again.” – Sam Basile
PLENTY OF ELBOW ROOM
Sam traded navigating steps and keeping house for a Center City lifestyle that’s hard not to love. “I just made up my mind that I was going to do it and I was well satisfied with it. The lobbies are big here, which I like because some of them have small lobbies, and there are elevators. And the hallways are nice and wide and I like that. I have a nice airy apartment with a bathroom and kitchen, living room and a bedroom and plenty of closet space which I’m very happy with that…” – Sam Basile
