You can feel like you’re on holiday every day in the right retirement community, even if you’re still working.
“I gave up cooking and housekeeping. I love it, absolutely love it. I feel like I’m on holiday every day.” – Lois Cole, resident of The Watermark at Logan Square
MEET LOIS COLE, UNRETIRED AND ENJOYING LIFE FULL TIME.
You can learn a lot from someone who has been in your shoes. Their honest insight can help you navigate your way to the place that’s right for you, regardless of which community you choose. (All quotes contained in this post are excerpts from an interview conducted with Lois Cole on Tuesday, July 28th, 2015. To read the full, un-edited transcript, please click here.)
Although she lived and worked for many years near her daughter in Salt Lake City, Lois is a Jersey girl at heart. At one time, she was a political appointee for the New Jersey State Board of Medical Examiners. Moving to Center City in June of 2015 felt like coming home. She loves the city atmosphere and although she still works part time as a quality control manager for a medical staffing company, she enjoys having afternoons, evenings and weekends free with access to all of the arts and entertainment Philly offers. She walks the neighborhood daily and joins Watermark yoga classes on Saturdays. Meeting friends has been easy, given all the opportunities to dine and go places together.
BREAK FROM TRADITION
Some people choose to work long past the traditional retirement age – and not necessarily because they have to. At 76, Lois Cole works part time because she enjoys what she does and she can do it remotely from the comfort of her home. In addition to working, Lois also chooses to live worry free in a retirement community, surrounded by friends and services that make life more enjoyable. Without traditional household chores to weigh her down, she is free to work part time and enjoy life full time. Modern day retirement communities offer options that previous generations never even dreamed of. Isn’t it time you took a closer look? “When I get my work done then I can go and play, get on the bus and do whatever I want to do here.” – Lois Cole
When Lois’ daughter left Utah, Lois started thinking seriously about her own future. Perfectly healthy, she knew that could change at any time and she never wanted to become dependent on her children. So she began her search for the right retirement community. After looking in California, Utah, New Jersey, New York and Philadelphia, Lois chose The Watermark at Logan Square. With her son nearby and healthcare services available on
site, she’s still marveling at just how worry free her new lifestyle is. “I don’t have to drive. I don’t have to worry about how I’m going to get to the Mann Music Center without a lot of traffic, where am I going to park…you know?” – Lois Cole
GOOD MORNING SUNSHINE
Lois originally thought she’d like a view of Logan Square but found she loves her view out towards the Ben Franklin Bridge and waking up to the morning sun. Being surrounded by friendly people adds to her sunny outlook and has made for an easy adjustment. “I can really inform you from the time that I moved in, and it continues, the people here are absolutely wonderful. Not just the residents but the staff…people really like each other and talk to each other and help each other.” – Lois Cole
