ARE YOU READY FOR A BETTER FUTURE?
The decision to live well begins with a positive attitude.
“I thought to myself ‘I better get on my horse and find someplace I want to go rather than be put someplace where I might not want to be.’” – Leila Frankford, resident at The Watermark at Logan Square
MEET LEILA FRANKFORD WHO FINDS LIFE’S EASIER – AND BETTER – BECAUSE SHE MOVED FORWARD.
You can learn a lot from someone who has been in your shoes. Their honest insight can help you navigate your way to the place that’s right for you, regardless of which community you choose. (All quotes contained in this post are excerpts from an interview conducted with Leila Frankford on Thursday, February 13th, 2014. To read the full, un-edited transcript, please click here.)
An accomplished pianist, graduate of Curtis Institute and former member of the Philadelphia Piano Orchestra, Leila was living at The Philadelphian in Center City when a health scare got her thinking. What would she do if she couldn’t live independently anymore? She didn’t want to depend on neighbors or be anybody’s burden. Neither did she want to leave the city she loved. So she picked out a beautiful two-bedroom, two-bath apartment at The Watermark and didn’t skip a beat. She continued attending her favorite events at the University and Academy of Music and even met a gentleman friend. Six years later, she can’t understand why anybody would move to the suburbs or pass up The Watermark lifestyle. As her son recently commented: “You made a wise choice, it’s better for you to be where the action is.” – Dr. Mark Vizer, Son
IMPROVE YOUR LIFE VIEW
Let’s face it, aging brings challenges that are difficult to face, and when it comes to challenges, attitude is everything! Moving to a retirement community takes a leap of faith, but it simply erases lots of those challenges. You can enjoy life unburdened by worries and chores, surrounded by friends who share a positive attitude toward the future. It’s easy to have a positive outlook when you live in Center City with easy access to everything you love about Philadelphia: museums, universities and a vibrant lifestyle. It’s all right here waiting for you. What are you waiting for? “Attitude is everything.” – Leila Frankford
SINGING IN THE RAIN
Earlier in life, Leila studied dance with Gene Kelly. Now, at 83, she’s still dancing through life with a positive attitude. She belongs to the theater group that puts on a performance every year at The Watermark. She attends exercise classes and plays bridge. In fact, she participates in just about everything offered. As a result, she’s made a lot of nice friends. You could call her lucky, but her good fortune really boils down to the choices she’s made, including her decision to move to The Watermark. I feel sort of sorry for people that are stuck in an apartment or a house. “I feel very, very lucky that I’m in a place where I don’t have to worry about cooking or cleaning or shopping.” – Leila Frankford
NOT JUST EASIER… BETTER IN EVERY WAY
For Leila, life couldn’t be better. There’s always someone to dine with and she likes the idea that she can watch current movies with friends without leaving the building. As a former Curtis student herself, she gets a kick out of Sunday night concerts often performed by them. I came to live, I came to make life easier and better for myself… I don’t have to shop or cook or clean. I came here so that I wouldn’t be alone in an apartment and to have people to always eat with or to play cards with or to see a movie. – Leila Frankford
