Resident Gladys Kates is Perfectly Happy at The Watermark

Moving to the right retirement community eliminates the worries so that you and your family can enjoy life more.

“The main reason I came was because I didn’t want my children to have to be concerned about me.” – Gladys Kates, resident of The Watermark at Logan Square

You can learn a lot from someone who has been in your shoes. Their honest insight can help you navigate your way to the place that’s right for you, regardless of which community you choose. Gladys is a Philly native and graduate of Simon Gratz High School. After a lifetime of doing for others as a wife, mother, secretary and volunteer, Gladys examined her options and chose a path where she can do just as she wants. At home at The Watermark, she enjoys baking for family and friends and crocheting for charities. She travels, reads, attends exercise classes and expresses her passion for acting in Senior Stage. Whenever she wants to go shopping, she either hops on The Watermark bus or takes a walk to nearby markets. She rarely cooks, preferring to dine with her many new friends. It’s a lifestyle she loves and that she recommends to everyone.

The decision to move to the right retirement community yields a lot of benefits. You’ll feel safe, loved and happy and everything you need is at your fingertips. If your present living situation is less than ideal for all the years ahead, you have nothing to lose and everything to gain from starting your research. “They travel. My daughter and son-in-law especially are on the go more. And my son lives right in Cherry Hill and I figured if I were in town close to them it would make it easier for them and for me. And that’s why I’m here. I did not have to come. I came because I wanted to come.” – Gladys Kates

Gladys was just 62 when her husband passed away. She stayed in their Bala Cynwyd home for 16 more years. At 78, she downsized into an apartment at the Winwood House, where maintenance-free living was a welcome relief but most of her neighbors still worked. At 84, she finally decided to relieve her children of worry and move to a place where every “what if” scenario has a happy ending. “If there’s a problem, if your lights are out, there’s always somebody that comes up to fix it. We have nurses here. We have doctors. We have physical therapy. We have a dentist. I have all of the conveniences.” – Gladys Kates

With so much to do at The Watermark, Gladys never runs out of choices and neither do her friends. You can be as active as you want and finding your own ideal lifestyle and routine is easy. “I have friends who are running and going all the time but it depends on what you want out of life. And what you feel like you want to do. So I do my thing and anybody else can do theirs. You’re free to do whatever you wish.” – Gladys Kates
