Resident Clara Jellineck is Enjoying Her Active Lifestyle at The Watermark

When your life can improve this much, why would you postpone the experience?

“The sooner you do it the happier you will be. You’re losing the advantage of enjoying the place if you wait too long. The longer you’re here the better it gets.” – Clara Jellineck, resident of The Watermark at Logan Square

You can learn a lot from someone who has been in your shoes. Their honest insight can help you navigate your way to the place that’s right for you, regardless of which community you choose. Even though Clara describes herself as having two left feet, she loves to watch her husband dance, which he does whenever The Watermark brings in live music. They live on the ninth floor and Clara’s brother lives conveniently on the seventh floor receiving Assisted Living services. To top it off, their daughter also lives nearby. Clara enjoys Center City living, taking the Watermark bus to go shopping and elsewhere and sometimes walking or
taking public transportation back home. Outgoing and engaged, she enjoys using Watermark’s gym and salon, attending yoga and other classes. Also, she recently signed up to learn poker. Clara loves the friends she’s made at The Watermark and even helps organize the popular Friday night religious services.

Retirement communities have come a long way in a short time. Today’s seniors are moving sooner rather than later to gain easy access to abundant
choices for living well. The best time to begin exploring retirement living options is when you can take advantage of everything life has to offer. “I had friends… that moved into retirement communities and they were saying, ‘We’re so sorry we didn’t do it sooner.’ And that’s what I have to say to people if you’re considering it at all, go right for it because it’s going to be better than you expected. It’s good to go in and get the advantage of being here as soon as you can. People unfortunately have waited too long to come in and they haven’t had the opportunity to enjoy the place with a spouse.” – Clara Jellineck

Clara spent 38 years practicing law in White Plains, NY before retiring and moving in with her daughter’s family in Virginia. When her son-in-law was
transferred to Chicago, she suddenly found herself alone with her husband in the large empty home. That just wouldn’t do. After looking around at their
alternatives, they moved to The Watermark at Logan Square seven years ago and never looked back. “I liked the fact that I could get right into the swing of things. After a few months I was elected to [Resident] Council and it’s great participating. I was co-chair of the welcoming committee because I enjoyed meeting new people and telling them all the things I liked here.” – Clara Jellineck

As active and independent as Clara is, she especially appreciates the continuum of care at The Watermark. Now that Clara’s husband has advanced Alzheimer’s, the convenience and comfort of having a physician and nursing available in-house is life changing. “If you should happen to go into rehab, you know, come back from the hospital and you come back here, your friends and your spouse can visit you right here and you’re not just looking at the four walls until somebody happens to float in. That’s a very important advantage.” – Clara Jellineck
