Resident Bernice Lightman is Enjoying Her Wonderful New Way of Life at The Watermark

It’s not a question of if, it’s a question of when will you benefit the most from retirement community living?

“I think I should have moved at least a year ago absolutely but I just wasn’t up to facing the move. All the things that I had to dispose of, it sort of was overwhelming.” – Bernice Lightman, resident of The Watermark at Logan Square

You can learn a lot from someone who has been in your shoes. Their honest insight can help you navigate your way to the place that’s right for you, regardless of which community you choose. When Bernice was living alone in the Jenkintown Abington area, her husband was in a nursing home 15 minutes away. No longer able to drive, she had to hire help just to manage, never mind finding time to have fun. Now that she’s living at The Watermark, she just hops on the elevator to visit her husband on the third floor, attend exercise classes, borrow books from the library and have dinner with friends. She also enjoys participating in lively group discussions about current events and short stories. Best of all, living in Center City gives her access to all the cultural opportunities she craves.

That feeling of being overwhelmed by the sheer task of moving doesn’t decrease as time goes on. That’s why it makes sense to get the help you need to complete your move now, while you can take full advantage of the lifestyle you select. The right retirement community makes living easy, enjoyable and a whole lot more fun. So what are you waiting for? “The time will come when you need help, assisted living. And if you wait too long, just the fact of the move itself becomes monumental in your mind, overwhelming… If you have done your homework like my husband and I did by visiting other places, because eventually, we just don’t get any younger. And it’s good to do the looking around while you’re able to, not when the event happens where you have to move in.” – Bernice Lightman

Bernice and her husband Bernard had done their homework before his health faltered, researching options from the suburbs to the city. The Watermark was their first choice for many reasons. Being in the city was important to Bernice, who enjoys being near the Academy of Music and art galleries, for example. Watermark’s library and the size and layout of his studio in the memory care neighborhood impressed them, too. “We have a fantastic library and I just am so happy I can go down there and get a book, any type of book I want. And I can keep it and read it for two weeks and then just bring it back down… I just love that library.” – Bernice Lightman

Having moved in November of 2015, Bernice took no time acclimating to a wonderful new way of life. Whenever she stops by to visit Bernard, he’s always dressed well and smiling and they can spend quality time together. When she comes down to dinner, she feels as though she’s dining in a lovely restaurant. She also loves easy access to all the opportunities to stay active and fit. “[They] offer so many things, for example, the exercise classes which I always go to because I’ve been feeling much better. They have them at 9:00am and they have them at 2:30pm.” – Bernice Lightman
