Resident Alice Schmidt is Enjoying Worry-Free, Fun-Filled Living at The Watermark

THRIVE AT THE HEART OF IT ALL
Why be stuck in the suburbs when everything is at your fingertips here?

“I knew with my eyesight I had to stop driving. And so being in Center City was just going to be perfect.” – Alice Schmidt, resident of The Watermark at Logan Square

MEET ALICE SCHMIDT, WHO’S BUSIER THAN EVER AT 90.
You can learn a lot from someone who has been in your shoes. Their honest insight can help you navigate your way to the place that’s right for you, regardless of which community you choose. (All quotes contained in this post are excerpts from an interview conducted with Alice Schmidt on Thursday, February 7, 2019. To read the full, unedited transcript, please click here.)

Alice lived her first 89 years within a 5-mile radius of Haddonfield, NJ, where she raised her son and worked as a Learning Disability Specialist in local schools. Giving up her car keys made suburban life feel a bit too secluded for Alice’s taste, and she was tired of waiting around for repair people at her house. After attending a Watermark luncheon in Cherry Hill, she decided to go take a look and instantly fell in love with its friendly vibe. Since moving in last August, she’s busier than ever and totally self-sufficient. She walks to Whole Foods, shops at Macy’s and explores ethnic restaurants with her two granddaughters. She also volunteers in the community thrift shop and helps out on the food and gardening committees.

GIVE YOURSELF THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS
Alice Schmidt was living alone in Haddonfield, NJ, last August when she decided to sell her home and move to The Watermark at Logan Square. Now, her family no longer worries and she’s having the time of her life. If the thought of worry-free, fun-filled living has crossed your mind, it’s time to explore your options. Join us for lunch, and we’ll give you a flying head start. “I knew it was becoming time because the maintenance of the house was becoming impossible because my husband had always taken care of everything and I knew nothing so it was a big learning process but the unreliability of people coming to help you and it was just, I had enough. It was time to move.” – Alice Schmidt

IF IT FEELS GOOD, DO IT
Using Watermark’s convenient loop transportation service, Alice has seven-day access to all the cultural offerings of Center City. Plus, with Haddonfield just 15 minutes away by PATCO, she and her friends can still see each other often. “I have a wonderful apartment with a wonderful view of the city. I’m on the 23rd floor so the views are wonderful. I look at the Ben Franklin Bridge … I get the morning sun, I look at the Delaware River, at New Jersey, the Ben Franklin Bridge is beautiful at night. All my New Jersey friends are very envious when they come over here and look out the window. It feels good.” – Alice Schmidt

MAKE YOUR OWN DECISIONS
Plan ahead and move to the retirement community of your choice before a neighbor, friend or loved one has to suggest it out loud. “I made the decision myself. I’ve always been independent in that way. Right or wrong, I make a decision and I live with it, whatever. But this was a good one. As I said, my family, they were happy that I was going to make a move and they said wherever I wanted to go was going to be fine with them.” – Alice Schmidt
