Embraced by a new and enthusiastic generation of older adults, Senior Stage is one of the fastest growing forms of the performing arts. Last evening, Watermark’s talented and comical seniors took to the stage as they premiered the show, Philadelphia, Here We Are, co-written by residents Gerry Pickering, Gerry Schneeberg and director Steve Hatzai. This performance was modeled after a variety show that included biographical skits of our founding Philadelphian fathers (and mothers), tunes to celebrate the City of Brotherly Love and even new songs parodying the life of a Watermark resident! During the show, the audience was asked to participate in a rousing round of Boat House Row, Row, Row Your Boat…Down the Schuylkill River, a mummer’s strut and a lively twist reminiscent of Philadelphia’s own rock and roll legends Chubby Checker, Frankie Avalon, Bobby Rydell and the hit show American Bandstand! “Our residents have worked extremely hard to prepare this work,” states Community Life Director Jessica Lowe. “This club engages those that revel in the opportunity to challenge their abilities while utilizing their quirkiness for the good of the community. They work closely with others and tap into their creative selves to produce pure theatrical magic!”
