The Golden Games 2015

Our residents have a chance to attend and participate in the Golden Games on September 16th. These games are an athletic event designed for nursing home residents. Through participation in the Golden Games, residents will have increased physical activity, increased socialization and a sense of unity and pride. The Games strive to increase community involvement with nursing home residents. Golden Games began in 1987 when Gerry Stride, then Activities Director at Simpson House suggested that CARRIE develop a senior Olympics for nursing home residents. Golden Games originally known as Philadelphia Senior Olympics started with only four nursing homes participating. Today, nursing homes from all over the Philadelphia area get involved. The Watermark residents really enjoyed doing the various games with the other communities. We cheered each other on and we even cheered on the other communities for all their hard work. We had a great time this year, even if we didn’t bring home the gold; the residents are still talking about it. Until next year…

Thank you to everyone that makes The Golden Games possible.
