Hot air ballooning is the world’s oldest form of aviation and air travel. In 1783, the Montgolfier brothers of Annonay, France made the first successful balloon flight in a balloon filled with smoke from a straw-fed fire. Today, ballooning has become a fun-filled recreational sport as well as a great spectator event. In June, Watermark residents were treated to VIP service and travelled down the runway for front row seats at Chester County’s 10th Annual Balloon Festival in Toughkenamon, PA. We watched as an engine driven fan was used to inflate the envelope and the envelope rose above the basket as heat provided enough ‘lift’ for the balloon to fly. On this sunny Saturday, the gentle breeze cooled us while we marveled as balloon after balloon lifted into the air and disappeared over the horizon. Paired with a dinner at Victory Brewpub in Kennett Square, this was truly the perfect evening.
