This past week was a busy one at The Watermark! We celebrated Mother’s Day, went on some exciting trips around Philadelphia, and had a special visit from the 2nd graders of New Foundations Charter School. According to their website, “the mission of the New Foundations Charter School is to provide students with the academic, social, and emotional foundations and skills necessary to become high achieving, socially competent stewards of their communities. The founders of the New Foundations Charter School will ensure a commitment to lifelong learning and achievement of all our students by creating an atmosphere of caring that pervades every aspect of school life, and promotes attachment to and responsibility for all members of our school community.”
This second grade class truly honored and represented the mission of their school. The students engaged in meaningful conversations with our residents by asking thoughtful questions and learning about what life was like for them when they were in second grade. These bright students also brought books with them, which gave them a chance to practice their reading skills and gave our residents a chance to help the students. Each student had the chance to work with a resident on a collaborative art project, using cut outs of their hands to create a beautiful springtime scene that is now proudly displayed on the 1st floor bulletin board.
It was a joy to see residents and students faces light up with excitement and enthusiasm throughout the morning of activities, and we look forward to welcoming them back in the future!
